A value chain is the combination of activities a business undertakes to move a product or service along with its life cycle, including design, marketing, distribution, and customer support.

To fill up your value chain, you must complete your capability map; this will automatically populate your value chain.

A business capability, or simply a ‘capability,’ defines what a business does. It does not communicate or expose where, why, or how something is done, only what is done.

Specifically, a business capability is a particular ability or capacity that a business may possess or exchange to achieve a specific purpose or outcome’.

The capability map in its entirety delivers a concise, non-redundant, business-centric view of the business at its most basic level. It also encompasses a complete picture of what that business does.

Capabilities represent the basic building blocks of a business. These building blocks can be used, improved, rearranged, and leveraged in various ways to achieve an infinite range of business goals; however, a business must first define those building blocks.

This can be for different teams, departments, projects, or possibly for different budgets or stakeholders. Create as many pipelines as you need and manage them in this module.
